Star Trek on Blu-Ray and DVD Tuesday

Post Rating

Trek_FeatTuesday November 17th, is not only my lovely mother’s birthday (happy birthday mom, I will probably forget to tell you on Tuesday), but also the day Star Trek comes to Blu-Ray and DVD.

I was lucky enough to see this movie in IMAX and I would have to say it’s in my Top Ten of All Time and probably my Number 1 movie of recent years with The Dark Knight in a close second. It’s pacing was perfect, it’s action was incredible and it did great justice to it’s predecessors. The only reason it tops The Dark Knight is because it’s an overall fun movie. Usually, I side with the dark and intense but in this rare case, fun action beats out serious and incredible action in my book. uhura_character_star_trek_2009_poster

It’s smart, it’s sexy and it’s scifi, how can you go wrong. If you haven’t seen this, do yourself a favor and at the very least throw it on the Netflix queue. You don’t have to take my word for it though, in the case of remakes, the loyal fan base of the original is usually highly critical of the new interpretation and scoffs at how the remake destroys everything the original had to offer, but in this case by and large everyone agrees. The casting was perfect and even with the history rewrite, the movie was very well done. It’s no Wrath of Khan, but it sure as hell breathes new life into the Star Trek Galaxy and I’m quite excited for sequels. Also in my humble opinion, unlike most movies, the rewatch value for this flick is fairly high. So for you collectors out there, there is no reason this should not be a part of your collection unless you are utterly annoyed by scifi, but even those people have liked this movie.

For those of you who have never seen a Star Trek movie or show and have no clue what a Vulcan is or why “I’m giving her all she’s got captain!” is a classic line, don’t worry. Yes you won’t be able to appreciate how well this movie is done and how true to form it is with the original Star Trek, but the beauty here is it can stand alone all by itself. If you watch this and love it (which you should, unless you’re a moron) then you definitely need to check out the old ones, starting with The Wrath of Khan.

star-trek-2009-11 I will be grabbing this first thing on Tuesday and I’m quite certain I will have watched it a minimum of three more times before the week is out. Cheers to J.J. Abrams for creating this masterpiece and though I know the hardcore fans will hate the last line of this article but with the whole time rewrite, I say in the next one bring on my personal favorite Star Trek nemesis, THE BORG!!!!!
