While this site finds it’s direction, one of the goals is to inform you of shows and movies you might miss due to everyday responsibilities. For me, one of the “great” things in life is being referred shows/movies by friends that I may not have known about, check em’ out and be thankful that someone “put me on” to it.
Last Sunday I stumbled across the teaser episode for Meet The Natives USA on The Travel Channel and I can wholeheartedly say, this is going to not only be good, but the type of show any and everyone can enjoy.
Premise: Take Five “ambassadors” from a hunter/gatherer tribe on the remote Pacific Island of Tanna on a journey across the US, living with a different family (and the military) each week and see how they and the families interact.
The exact list being:
Montana
New York
Peoria, Illinois
Orange County, California
Fort Stewart, Georgia
Washington, DC
Any half-a-brain idiot knows that this is a profound recipe for insight and entertainment. In the teaser episode, we were blessed with “look inside yourself” moments like: One of the tribesman at a spa in Orange County getting a facial and being told he could look ten years younger, his response was to the effect that he would rather live longer, than look younger. Another beautiful moment was when another tribesman while looking over a massive farm, reflected how it was a shame for one man to have so much but in the end simply die like the rest of us (trust me it was much more prophetic when he says it, but you get the picture). In the end, it looks like there is a large and heavy mutual impact on both the families and the ambassadors each week and it’s always great to step away from the garbage prime time tv we know and love.
Before the ambassadors leave their tribe initially, the old wise chief sends them on a specific mission to spread the word of peace, because they have heard that Americans and the world are assholes(me paraphrasing) caught up with war and such. When the ambassadors get to Washington, you guessed it, they hit the White house but we are not shown if they achieve speaking to the H.N.I.C. (that was so inappropriate, but why are you shocked).
Things we will apparently learn:
Black people are naturally better at sports.
No matter how many times you go to a personal trainer, you won’t have abs like a Tanna Tribesman.
We as “First World” people have completely lost sight of what is important.
Humor is universal!
Just because you live in a tribe on a remote island and walk around almost naked, without electricity and such, doesn’t mean you’re an idiot! Actually, it probably means your smarter than two thirds of the American population!
Meet The Natives USA premieres Sunday November 29 on The Travel Channel @ 9pm Eastern/ 10pm Pacific
Do yourself a favor and at the very least record it!
